Kinc and crotale polishes their 3DMark 06 WR - 29,325 points
Written by Andreas G 01 December 2007 12:05

Even thought they just broke the 3DMark06 world record, our overclockers Kinc and crotale kept going. As if it wasn't hard enough just to bench live, they also had to battle security guards just to get back to their rig. The area was namely ravaged by thieves during Thursday night and this resulted in more guards in the B hall, where the overclocking is held, and the entire ASUS booth was sealed off, but after some convincing words from Marcus, Robert and Thomas Melzer (from Intel) they were let inside of the barricade. A smart move it turned out to be as they managed to push their world record system to new heights.

The polished world record is 29,325 points, an increase by 178 points from the day before. The key was to push the cores of the Radeon HD 2900 XT graphics cards from 1175 MHz to 1200 MHz. The graphics memory was also slightly higher clocked. They are still 120 MHz short of the processor of the record system used by Kingpin, Shamino and Hipro during the Plaisio Overclocking Event in Greece. If they would be able to get a hold of a similar processor, a dream score of 30,000 points is starting to look quite feasible.

But as they've already been able to improve the 3DMark 06 record by 300 points, we have to say that we're quite happy with the results even if this is the last major result we accomplish during this event.

System specifications:
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (431x13, 5522MHz)
ASUS P5E3 WS Pro (Intel X38)
ASUS Radeon HD 2900 XT CrossFire 1200/980MHz
Corsair Dominator DDR3-1800 @ 1698MHz 6-6-5-15
SilverStone 1200W
Liquid nitrogen for cooling both graphics cards and processor
