Dell removes AMD systems from online store
Written by Andreas G 08 February 2008 19:59

When the first AMD-based systems were shipped from Dell in 2006, AMD had gained a new and very powerful ally. The K8 architecture could indeed compete with Intel's NetBurst processors and AMD was on a roll. Shortly afterward, Intel launched the Core architecture and the rest is history. The Core architecture has been roaming the fields ever since and not even the new Phenom family has been able to stand up to Intel's beasts. It becomes even more obvious when you view AMD's income charts and after gaining on Intel for many years, Intel is now moving away from AMD. The latest blow comes from Dell, which has removed AMD-based systems from its North American web shop.

if you search for AMD at Dell's website you will find several systems, but also a message that says;

Dell computers with AMD processors.
Shop for Dell computers with AMD processors in retail stores. See our retail partners for details. Computers with AMD processors are not available online.

A huge setback for AMD and the question is if Dell is about to terminate AMD, or if it's just waiting for AMD to start shipping more and better processors.
