3DMark 03 record broken with air-cooled Radeon HD 3870X2 cards!
Written by Andreas G 05 March 2008 18:01

CrossFireX beta drivers have been circulating among overclockers and enthusiasts for some time, and it didn't take long before the 3DMark world records started to fall. No_name managed to claim both 3DMark 06 and to our great surprise 3DMark 03, with a pair of Radeon HD 3870X2 cards cooled by liquid nitrogen. His record has now been broken by another Radeon HD 3780X2 overclocker, gprhellas, but his cards were still using the stock coolers!

The cards were overclocked to 980/1150MHz, but that's 64MHz less than No_name's system. The processor was operating at 5747MHz, which is 28MHz more than No_name's CPU, but all in all he was still able to score 195 points more than No_name; 132,021 points total.

This just shows that there is still a lot to get from Radeon HD 3870X2 and right we're very eager to see if Quad and/or 3-way SLI will be able to counter this. March 18 is the date for that. Right now you can look forward to the first CrossFireX drivers being released to the public any moment now.
