GeForce 9800GTX review
Written by Andreas G 14 March 2008 21:36

The guys who brought us the first GeForce 9800GX2 has followed up with a review of the GeForce 9800GTX. And guess what? It's slightly faster than a slightly lower clocked GeForce 8800GTS. Unfortunately, the review only holds NVIDIA cards; GeForce 9800GTX vs. 8800 Ultra, 8800GTX and 8800GTS. Without any Radeon card, it gets kind of flat, but still shows with the utmost clarity that, at stock frequencies, GeForce 9800GTX is not a necessary upgrade for anyone who already owns a GeForce 8 series card.

Beware that the list of specifications is not entirely on the mark. GeForce 9800GTX does not have OpenGl 3.0 support or Quad-SLI, "just" OpenGl 2.1 and 3-way SLI.

A comparison with the GeForce 9800GX2 and two cards in SLI would've been nice too, but considering how early this review (the card is not due until the 25th), we can't really complain. Especially as two GeForce 9800GTX cards ($299-349)will cost just slightly more than a single GeForce 9800GX2 ($599).

We would've liked some results with the card at overclocked frequencies too, because this is where the GeForce 9800 series is going to shine with the new PCB and power circuitry.
