RV740 sports 128-bit bus, GDDR5
Written by Andreas G 26 March 2008 10:52

RV740 is the next best thing of the upcoming R700 series. The chip will replace the RV635 as the new mid-range alternative. Much like the RV635, RV740 will sport a 128-bit memory bus. The reason is to keep the costs down and the PCB simple, but thanks to the high memory frequency of the coming GDDR5 standard, the actual memory bandwidth will still be as good as it would with a 256-bit bus and GDDR3 memory. No reason to despair then. More detailed specifications should be arriving soon.
