FireDTV gets Mac OS X support
Written by Andreas G 14 May 2008 11:40

If you're an HTPC enthusiast you're probably heard of Digital Everywhere's FireDTV. It's a digital receiver that you connect to your computer, via FireWire, and allows you to watch digital TV through your PC. It comes with a rather handy software package and supports a lot of different digital TV networks. You can even use multiple FireDTVs in the same machine to get channels from multiple networks. Digital Everywhere has now updated its software support to include Mac OS X.

There have been loads of requests for OS X support, simply because there are quite a lot of people who want to use FireDTV with their tiny Mac Minis. Older versions of FireDTVs can easily be upgraded with a simple firmware update.

At the same time, it has announced that it has improved the support for Windows through the DVB-viewer application, which brings HDTV and program guides (EPG) support, and of course the most obvious things like pause live tv, lossless recording and much more. The full version also includes LATM AAC and MPEG4/h.264 codecs, which are commonly used for digital broadcasts.

You can find more about FireDTV and FloppyDTV at Digital Everywhere's website.
