Acer launches enthusiast PC - Aspire Predator
Written by Andreas G 21 May 2008 13:49

Acer has decided to launch a new series of enthusiast desktop PC. Acer was a pionner with its Ferrari laptops, which sported some impressive hardware and designs, and it has now done something similar with its desktop lineup. Aspire Predator is a new line of computers built and designed for enthusiasts. Acer has really gone all the way here with the design as it looks like nothing we've seen before, but at the same time we're not sure if going this extreme will appeal to all users of all ages. Acer self calls it a radical design, and we agree. It's not only for the looks though, but also has some nifty features.

The front of the case can be raised revealing world's first optical bay mechanism to reveal a rewritable DVD and Blu-ray Disk reader, along with easily accessible USB and audio ports and a memory card reader. You will also get access to the Easy-swap harddrive solution, which allows you to hotswap (up to) four SATA 3Gbps harddrives, with RAID 0, 1, 5, 1+0 modes from the NVIDIA MediaShield storage technology.

The system is based on the nForce 780 chipset from NVIDIA and sports Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX9650 under the hood (or at least we assume so when they say Intel Core 2 Extreme processor with 1333MHz bus). You get to pick from a variety of graphics card configurations including; 2 x G9600GT, 2 x G9800GTZ [sic] or even 2 x G9800GX2.

Aspire Predator comes with a maintenance-free water cooling system (it might be the LCLC from Asetek, we're not sure, but we're investigating).

The Aspire Predator comes with a multimedia keyboard with illuminated keys, gaming mouse, Dolby Home Theater audio enhancements and EAX 4.0 for the best gaming experience.
