S3 Graphics is the visual section of VIA technologies. Over the last few years it has been trying to break into the low-end segment of the discrete graphics card market, and make mobile versions of its discrete GPUs for the mobile market. While the Chrome series is still a bit hard to come across in the west, they are a lot more common in the east. Apparently, VIA and S3 are so happy with how the Chrome series has performed that it is planning to take things up a notch. It's next GPU, dubbed Excalibur, has just been taped out. It sports a 128-bit memory bus, twice that of the current Chrome GPUs, and should launch sometime within the coming three months. Unfortunately that's all we know at this time, but it sure seems like VIA is going further with its GPU plans.
