Gainward goes AMD with Radeon HD4850, HD4870
Written by Andreas G 29 June 2008 18:56

Gainward, being one of the companies that has been leering at AMD's new Radeon HD 4800 series and not too pleased with the lack of GeForce GTX cards, has now decided that maybe it should fill the empty GTX slots with some Radeon HD 4850 and 4870. Gainward has namely announced one model of each, and they're not even overclocked, nor do they have after-market coolers. We wouldn't be surprised if later models do have these qualities though.

Gainward Radeon HD4850 has a core frequency of 625MHz and GDDR3 memory operating at 1986MHz, while the HD4870 operates at 750MHz and has GDDR5 memory operating at 3600MHz. Both has a 512MB memory buffer and use the debated reference coolers.

Being a subsidiary of Palit, Gainward's decision may be a hint of what will come from the mothership in a not too distant future.
