Wii is still the unquestioned leader of the current video game console generation. The amount of consoles being sold around the world is close to ridiculous, and has been from the start. PlayStation 3 did not have the same booming sales in the beginning, but it has been steadily climbing. The latest numbers from Japan suggests that Wii is still reigning, but PlayStation 3 is gaining. Although, Wii still outsold PS3 by at least 50% the last month.
The launch of the fourth and last part of the Metal Gear Solid saga was a big part of the gain and the question is if this is just a temporary thing or if the PlayStation brand will actually be able to reclaim the crown. Xbox 360 sales are almost negligible in comparison to the other two in Japan. Even though Microsoft is doing better with Xbox 360 than they did with Xbox, it can not be happy with the inability of the console to appeal to the Japanese consumers.
