Ridata was one of the first companies to jump on to the Solid State train and has now decided to follow in OCZ's foot steps by launching a series of SSD's built for value. Ridata Ultra-S Plus is the name of the new series using MLC (Multi-Level Cell) flash technology for higher storage density and decent transfer speeds at lower prices. The new series includes three models, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. The remaining specifications are identical for the three drives and even though performance was not the main priority, it's nothing to be ashamed of.
Ridata Ultra-S Plus offers a sequential read speed of 128MB/s and write speed of 80MB/s. Not quite up to the level of OCZ Core series, but certainly not far behind.
"We are pleased to offer laptop and other mobile computing device users an affordable SSD alternative to Hard Disk Drives (HDD). SSD drives offer a host of benefits over traditional hard disk drives especially for notebooks. Cool and silent running, low battery usage, fast data access, dependable performance and resistance to temperature, shock, vibration and humidity make SSD ideal for the mobile computing environment," remarked Harvey Liu, Advanced Media President.
Ridata claims that the entire Ultra-S Plus series will be available in stores at the end of July and the prices will be on par with OCZ's "budget series". The 32GB model will cost $169, the 64GB model $294.90 and the 128GB device $537.90. Ridata says the drives have 4,000,000 hours Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), but it does not mention the warranty.
