AMD supportive of PhysX on Radeon
Written by Andreas G 20 July 2008 22:54

A few weeks back, Israeli website NGOHQ.com reported that they had been able to run NVIDIA's newly launched PhysX technology on AMD's Radeon HD 380 GPU. In the days that followed they managed to get the direct support from NVIDIA, with both tools and developer assistance. The problem was that he was unable to get a hold of a last generation Radeon HD 4800 series card to continue the development. The reason was not because AMD refused to help them, but that the card is short in supply in many parts of the world, Israel being one of them.

They were able to get a hold of a card through Palit eventually, but while we wait for them to complete a review of the card before moving on to further developing PhysX on Radeon, we decided to talk directly to AMD. More than one reader have inquired as to where AMD really stands on this issue. NGOHQ has been rather harsh in its description of AMD's support, but the reality seems different. When we spoke to Julia Clark, AMD PR Manager, UK, South Africa, Middle East and Nordics, she said;

"We think that it is great that people continue to use our products in creative ways."

When we've spoken to AMD it doesn't seem like that AMD doesn't want this to happen, on the opposite, anything that could add more value to the already affordable Radeon HD 4800 series is a plus.
