Diamond Radeon HD 4870 X2 - XOC³ H2O edition launched
Written by Andreas G 17 August 2008 19:20

Diamond has announced another monster graphics card based on the latest Radeon HD 4800 series GPU, also known as RV770. It was the first to unveil a truly overclocked edition of Radeon HD 4870 with Diamond Radeon HD 4870 XOC Black Edition, which was also available with preinstalled water cooling. The card operated at 800MHz core frequency and 4400MHz (4x1100MHz) memory clock, but it also had a tweaked BIOS that further unlocked frequencies up to 950/4800MHz. Diamond Radeon HD 4870 X2 - XOC³ H2O edition is no worse.

Diamond Radeon HD 4870 X2 - XOC³ H2O edition is based on AMD's latest flagship, Radeon HD 4870 X2, but just like Radeon HD 4870 Black Edition, this one has a couple of tweaks of its own. First of all it has the same high core and memory clocks, 800/4400MHz, but thanks to the Koolance water block there should be room for more. Actually, Diamond is literally begging you to go higher.

Diamond says in its press release that this is the real Super RV770 and the real can of ass whooping it has been waiting to open. This is based on the fact that Diamond has been able to fine tune the RV770 BIOS even further and unlock frequencies up to 990MHz on the core.

"This adrenaline pumped card on steroids will make our competitors card look like a Ford Pinto station wagon engine" says, Mario Gastelum, Director of Product Development & Engineering. "Diamond brings the same engineering mentality to it’s high performance line of Radeon graphics boards that AMG brings to a Mercedes Benz."

The card will be available on August 18th at Premier Boutique System Builder Smoothcreations. No price was stated in the press release.
