Shuttle X27 - mini-PC with Atom inside
Written by Andreas G 25 August 2008 20:37

Shuttle is the mother of the Small Form Factor market and its line of XPCs, although not as popular as it once were, has made a big impact on the PC market. The demand for small systems is higher than ever, not the least thanks to circuit manufacturers making an honest attempt to adjust its chips to the new tides. Intel has its energy efficient Atom processor and being Shuttle, it decided to to what it does best. Shuttle X27 is built around Intel's mobile Atom CPU, but it's a stationary platform. X27 has a similar formfactor as Apple Mac Mini and the focus is on power efficiency and low costs.

Shuttle X27 consumes 23W when idle, while under load the drainage goes up to mere 36W. Thanks to the low power consumption the cooling is very quiet and according to Shuttle, X27 emits noise at a level of 23dBA. Shuttle X27 is slated for September, but the price was not mentioned.

The outputs certainly points to X27 being an affordable option for an HTPC.
