Creative launches external X-Fi sound card
Written by Andreas G 01 September 2008 21:22

The Creative X-Fi audio processor can be found inside quite a lot of audio products, and more are coming. The latest dealie to sport X-Fi technology under the hood is a new external sound card called Sound Blaster X-Fi Go!. Creative has namely decided to fit the X-Fi processor inside an external unit, something it has done before with X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook, but this time it is a USB sound card that works with any USB2.0 compatible computer.

The similarities with a USB memory stick are quite striking and the fact that X-Fi Go! also has 1GB integrated memory makes it even more obvious. The main attraction is the sound chip though, and the functionality it brings. The device comes with Creative's 24-bit Crystallizer and supports everything from CMSS-3D to EAX Advanced HD 4.0.

X-Fi Go! utilizes the integrated memory in a clever way, Creative ALchemy is namely preinstalled on the device, which enables Windows Vista to output the same surround sound as Windows XP.

The external sound card is expected to appear in stores soon and will cost $79.
