Google Chrome revealed, Google goes browser
Written by Andreas G 02 September 2008 21:31

Google Chrome is a name to remember and if know we Google the name is here to stay. Here we are awaiting the final release of Internet Explorer 8 and monitoring Mozilla's development of Firefox, as they are the two biggest browsers on the market, with Opera hiding in the background. During the last few years, stories about a Google browser have been going and coming. Google denied the very existence of a browser two years ago, which more or less killed off most of the rumors, and even though it may have been sincere at the time, it has obviously changed its mind since then.

Google Chrome has namely entered the first official testing phase, which means that Google has released detailed information about its very own browser. Chrome will be open source and Google are open with the fact that it has borrowed a lot from similar open source projects such as Firefox and WebKit.

Although, Google Chrome is all new from the ground up, and built for the environment which the many years of Internet usage has created.

"Under the hood, we were able to build the foundation of a browser that runs today's complex web applications much better. By keeping each tab in an isolated "sandbox", we were able to prevent one tab from crashing another and provide improved protection from rogue sites. We improved speed and responsiveness across the board. We also built a more powerful JavaScript engine, V8, to power the next generation of web applications that aren't even possible in today's browsers."

Google also has a rather unorthodox but interesting way of introducing new users to the browser; a cartoon that does a good job of presenting and explaining the idea behind Chrome and its features. Even though Google hasn't released the actual browser to the public we presume that it is just a matter of time before we can browse the web using the Google browser.

We're certainly looking forward to a closer look at the browser that though its separated tab processes and interesting JavaScript engine (V8) should have some fresh thinking to offer. You can find more in Google's official blog and make an acquaintance with Chrome through the 38 page cartoon.
