Dell Inspiron Mini 9 became the final name of Dell's new mini-laptop, which was previously known as Inspiron 910. Dell has thus launched its first netbook, started by ASUS Eee PC last year. Like most manufacturers, Dell has chosen to go with Intel's Atom processor with Mini 9 and decided to settle for a 8.9" display (1024x600px), which means that Dell isn't following the current trend of 10.1" displays, which started with MSI and the Wind U100 netbook.
Dell Inspiron Mini 9 offers, despite its size, a whole lot of interesting features. Among others, 8GB SSD, 1GB DDR2 533MHz RAM, 802.11g WiFi, 4-in-1 card reader, 1.3MP webcamera and 4-cell Li-ion battery. The operating system is either Ubuntu Linux or Windows XP, where the latter will cost you a few dollars more.
Notebookreview.com got their hands on an early sample of Mini 9 and published a complete review of Dell's minimalistic netbook. Overall, they think Dell has done a good job, but it doesn't seem to offer anything new really, which they were kind of hoping since it has taken quite long for Dell to launch Mini 9.
Mini 9 is still a model to consider for those who are looking for a netbook. The PC can be ordered from Dell's American website and prices start at $349 USD. It's uncertain when and to which countries the laptop will go from here.
