iPod Touch 2G sports Bluetooth 2.1+EDR
Written by Andreas G 12 September 2008 21:42

Apple announced the second generation iPod Touch a while ago and one of the news was the support for Nike+, which enables the iPod to communicate with Nike+ running shoes. The only specifics that was revealed at the launch was that the communication was wireless and over Bluetooth's 2.4GHz frequency band. Now that ifixit has dissected Apple's new media player they've also revealed that it is indeed Bluetooth that has been introduced to iPod Touch.

They found a Broadcom BCM4325 Bluetooth 2.1+EDR chip inside the player, which means that Touch has theoretic support for wireless Bluetooth headsets (if Apple has included A2DP, Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). No one knows for certain how far Apple will take the Bluetooth support with the new Touch player, but to be honest it would be downright stupid not to take advantage of Broadcom's BT chip now that is in there.
