Fujitsu Siemens Primergy RX600 S4 with hexa-cores under the hood
Written by Andreas G 22 September 2008 20:46

Fujitsu Siemens Computers is one of the system builders that has chosen to jump on to Intel's Xeon MP 7400 series. The processors also known as Dunnington have six processor cores sharing up to 16MB L3 cache. Primergy RX600 S4 is the name of the new high-end series launched by FSC, where you can use from four to six processors and up to 256GB RAM in each system.

"With huge memory capacity in an individual PRIMERGY RX600 S4 unit – up to 256GB of RAM available in a single chassis thanks to new 8GB memory modules to be introduced in the final quarter of 2008 – the four-socket servers are the perfect platform for running a bank of virtual machines and for backend services such as databases and e-commerce systems. They can also easily operate resource-hungry ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems, and they are perfect for working with large databases, where exceptionally high levels of system resources are required."

The price of FSC Primergy RX600 S4 systems housing Xeon MP 7400 is unclear, but then again not too many of us have to worry about that. The question is you want to go with a server like this when Nehalem and Core i7 is so close.
