Sony already has the world best selling Blu-ray player in PlayStation 3, which is hardly surprising since it is the head of the group promoting Blu-ray. Blu-ray still fairly rare to see on the computer market, but as development moves forward, prices should come down, eventually. The latest internal burner from Sony, BWU-200S, has gone from 4X burn speed to 8X, which is in line with the current Blu-ray burner trend. Sony BWU-300S will burn a 25GB BD-R disc in about 15 min and a full 50GB disc in 30 min.
The unit can also burn DVDs at 16X speed, CDs at 48X speed and even handle DVD-RAM. Sony emphasizes the Blu-ray playback of its new device by sending along a copy of the movie Men In Black, and software from CyberLink to burn and watch Blu-ray.
Sony BWU-300S uses the SATA interface and should appear in stores next month. We're not sure at what price, but it should be somewhere around $350.
