ASUS breaks 3DMark world record with Core i7?
Written by Andreas G 25 September 2008 20:54

ASUS was one of the first to unveil motherboard with the Intel X58 chipset, in other words a board for the coming Intel Core i7 (Nehalem) processors. We know for certain that ASUS is not the only one in the middle of mass producing X58 motherboards, even though Intel will not launch Core i7 until mid November. Intel's new microarchitecture is anything but a secret with all the previews around, but once again we have come across some extreme performance indications from ASUS.

ASUS has namely posted a banner that speaks of the most extreme overclocking motherboards on the market and that it has achieved a new 3DMark Vantage world record. The result is presented as 31,389 points and can be compared to the current world record of 30,529 points.

Even if ASUS reveals nothing surrounding the record result but has actually posted a P5Q Premium in the animation we can guarantee you that this is not a result with any platform available today. First of all it's a bit too good for 3DMark Vantage with today's hardware, at the same time ASUS has shared nothing about the hardware, something it would if it could.

Don't read too much into this though, but those who were worried that Nehalem would just be a server and workstation CPU should feel a bit better after this. With less than two months to go before the launch of Core i7 it seems like the processor will be ready to set new benchmark records. We will keep you posted until then.
