Transcend updates SSD lineup
Written by Andreas G 30 September 2008 10:03

Over the last couple of months more and more companies have suited up and launched so called Solid State Drives; a new form of storage that is considered the successor to mechanical harddrives. Manufacturers have been able to cover large portions of the long-term storage market through a number of different formfactors and SSDs, but also through different NAND flash circuits; MLC or SLC. Transcend is one of these companies and it has now announced a new series with significantly improved transfer rates and IOPS.

In this case, the improved performance is no because of improved flash circuits but an updated memory controller that can handle a lot more operations per second. It delivers substantially higher performance, rarely seen with MLC circuits. It provides lower access times and improved performance when working with small files, the Achilles heal of previous MLC-based drives. The drives comes in 2.5" formfactor and up to 64 GB. The sequential transfer rates are reported to be 159/136 MB/s read and write rate respectively. It has also included an ECC circuits that will ensure data integrity.
