Written by Andreas G 20 October 2008 13:54

Mozilla is continuously updating is Firefox web browser and it has now revealed the first official beta of Firefox 3.1. Mozilla has decided to put the closed beta testing to an end and release Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 for public testing, and to give us a taste of what is about to come. This enables more feedback from the community, what can be improved and what should be changed with the new browser. Mozilla says that FF 3.1 Beta 1 contains many new features that will improve everything from performance to compatibility and speed.

Below are the main bullet points of this release and the changes with this version of Firefox;

  • Web standards improvements in the Gecko layout engine
  • Added support for CSS 2.1 and CSS 3 properties
  • A new tab-switching shortcut that shows previews of the tab you’re switching to
  • Improved control over the Smart Location Bar using special characters to restrict your search
  • Support for new web technologies such as the <video> and <audio> elements, the W3C Geolocation API, JavaScript query selectors, web worker threads, SVG transforms and offline applications.
