Radio is hardly a technology to brag about among your high-tech friends, but if you look beyond the hissing FM/AM radios that can be found every other home a couple of decades ago, there is still a lot of things going on. FM broadcasts are still largely available but we also have Internet radio nowadays, also known as podcasts, which are very popular among computer users. Retro-inspired FM radios have been a real fad over the last couple of years and Sanyo has now combined the two with its retro designed Internet radio R227.
The stereo radio support regular FM broadcasts but the most interesting is the integrated WiFi and Ethernet support.
"Fifty-two years after launching one of the world's first transistor radios, SANYO has unveiled its new Internet/FM Stereo Radio. The R227 has built-in WIFI and an Ethernet jack, enabling users to access thousands of stations and podcasts from around the world with countless music and information formats, all without having to pay a fee or use a computer."
It does look like a quite nice entertainment machine for the places of the home where the computer regularly doesn't sit. Sanyo R227 will launch in Canada before the end of the month and cost CAD$219.99. If and when the Internet radio will arrive elsewhere remains to be seen.
