DreamHack: Battle of the North begins
Written by Andreas G 29 November 2008 14:10

After our reporter arrived at DreamHack a day later than usual, which was actually quite relaxing compared to the regular stress, the travel from the train station to Elmia together with NH celebrities Kinc and crotale was more than comfortable. Superstition may very well be his middle name as he thought the taxi was just for him. He should have known better, because the next stop was not the Elmia halls but the local AGA depot. In other words, he was not going to DreamHack but to fill the dewars with liquid nitrogen before Battle of the North.

A visit at DreamHack is far more than just hardware and overclocking but with so much of it and several persons from the Nordic elite of overclockers gathered at one and the same place we just have to focus on this battle.

Except from new hardware they need a terrifying amount of liquid nitrogen to push it past its normal limitations. Even if Kinc and crotale got a head start they had to refill their supply and with a lack of snow they had to play with AGA's nitrogen while waiting.

With close to 120 liters of fresh nitrogen in the trunk they head off to the Elmia halls and DreamHack. The world's largest LAN party is about the same as last time, but there are some interesting news and these will be covered within the near future. We will continue covering the Northern overclocking battle and earlier on he went to visit Team Finland, and covered the progress of Team Sweden during the first day.

Team Sweden

Team Finland

Even if they are still taking it a bit easy on the hardware they have already managed to break a high class result yesterday when they reached just north of 36.000 in 3DMark Vantage, extremely close to the world record. Our Finnish colleagues informed us that they had broken 34,000 points, but was a bit disappointed with the tired processor. That a person can actually be disappointed with the performance of a Core i7 Extreme Q965 processor costing close to a month salary clearly shows the ambitions of these overclockers. We haven't been able to follow the progress of the Dutch team at Het Multimedia Event i Holland, but we will try to dig up something in coming posts.

After some problems with condensations Kinc and crotale took a break from benching, but we're counting on more results soon (actually we already have new to post), not to mention the end of the Battle later today. We will also be reporting from DreamHack in general and about the products that are on display so don't go anywhere!
