New energy efficient CPU from Intel in 2009
Written by Andreas G 12 January 2009 19:40

Intel already dominates the budget notebook market through its Atom processor that is found in more or less every budget PC. There is a small niche between these budget systems and fully fledged PCs, a market AMD is targeting with its new Athlon Neo processor. This hasn't gone by unnoticed by Intel and now it seems like the chip giant will launch a processor of its own for this market, ultraportable computers costing between $600-900.

The new processor will be based on the older Core architecture and the source claims this will enable notebooks only 25mm thick. The actual processor measures 22 x 22mm and is said to be a tuned version of Intel's current ULV (Ultra-Low Voltage) processor. If the new processor family will get even lower power consumption is uncertain, but current Core 2 Duo ULV models works in the 10W TDP envelope.
