Jetway MA3-79GDG COMBO supports both AM2 and AM3
Written by Andreas G 28 January 2009 22:47

Jetway seems to think that we might be running into problems as we start to move from DDR2 to the newer DDR3. Intel has been using DDR3 with its platforms for some time and with the coming 5 series of chipsets there will only be DDR3. AMD is also about to launch its first DDR3 platform, Socket AM3, where motherboards have already been announced by several manufacturers. Information on a new Socket AM3 board that is not like the rest has appeared, Jetway MA3-79GDG COMBO.

The motherboard is first of all micro-ATX, but that is far from news worthy alone. It's that it supports AM2, AM2+ and AM3 processors with support for both DDR2 and DDR3, which makes it unique. Two memory slots supports DDR2-1066 while the remaining two supports DDR3-1066.

We have seen similar motherboards for other platforms, but Jetway seems to the first for AMD's new Phenom II family. With the AMD 790GX chipset the board sports an integrated graphics circuit in the form of Radeon HD 3300, but there is also two PCI Express x16 slots for more powerful dealies, which creates a rather interesting upgrade platform that should appear next month.
