ZiiLABS plays HD video with ZMS-05 media processor on Android
Written by Andreas G 18 February 2009 12:33

Creative and 3DLabs announced a joint company named ZiiLABS that promised an evolution of the circuit market through its StemCell Computing architecture. Since then we haven't heard or seen much, but during the Mobile World Congress it showed off the capacity of its ZMS-05 media processor, the company's first circuit based on the new architecture. The reason ZiiLABS showed off the chip during MWC is that it has presented its circuit as the ideal Android platform.

Android is a software package for mobile devices that includes everything from operating system to smaller programs and applications. ZiiLABS ZMS processor will supply hardware acceleration for the Android platform and at MWC they demonstrated HD video playback on this mobile platform.

It has also published a demonstration video of an Android-based system where everything from interface to image and video playback is accelerated by the ZMS processor with what looks to be pretty good performance.

After earlier seeing Samsung present a mobile phone that can record video at 720p it is becoming quite clear where the companies wants to take the next generation of mobile devices, HD. What ZiiLABS can offer that others can't remains to be seen.

More on the ZiiLABS ZMS-05 processor.
