Buffalo designs external SSD solution for Eee PC
Written by Andreas G 15 March 2009 20:57

Buffalo has released a Solid State Drive upgrade package for ASUS Eee PC 901-16G, which comes with a pretty interesting accessory. If you get a bigger 32GB/64GB SSD for the Eee PC you get an external SSD device for free. The new larger SSD can be installed in the external USB device just like any external storage devices. Or simply be switched for the for 16GB SSD that sits inside the actual Eee PC, its 16GB SSD can then be installed in the external unit for extra storage.

The external storage device is connected to the Eee PC, or any other PC for that matter, through a simple USB cable. Alas Buffalo doesn't sell its external SSD devices outside the upgrade package and at the same time it is unclear about the compatibility with other SSD solutions, there are more manufacturers that sell SSD specially developed for ASUS Eee PC and these should also work.

The concept of external SSDs is most likely something we will see more of, since these incredibly small drives are extremely durable.
