Intel's processors of the Xeon family aren't just good for servers and workstations, evidently there is power to boot, and even more when overclocked. German overclocking team Benchbrothers managed to scare up a Nehalem-based Xeon W3540 processor to more than 5.2GHz and paired it with no less than three Radeon HD 4890 graphics in CrossFireX. The result was new world records in both 3DMark05 and 3DMark06.
The complete specifications were as follows;
- Intel Xeon W3540
- ASUS Rampage II Extreme
- 3x OCZ PC3-12800
- 3x PowerColor Radeon HD 4890
- Corsair 128 GB SSD
- Enermax 1050 Watt (CPU and 1 graphics card)
- OCZ EliteXStream (SSD and the other two cards)
- ultramarine blau Kaskade built by piotres

Even if only the processor was sufficiently cooled the power of the three Radeon HD 4890 graphics cards was still enough to dethrone the previous champs. Three graphics cards with 1000MHz GPU frequency and 4600MHz memory clock totals some very impressive performance.
