Core i5 Lynnfield 2.66GHz benchmarks
Written by Andreas G 24 May 2009 20:57

Most component manufacturers are preparing their product demonstrations for Computex opening on June 2nd. One of the more interesting, although far from the best kept secrets, are the platforms for Intel's new mid-range platform LGA1156 and Core i5 processors. The first Core i5 processors will be the 45nm Lynnfield, that with four cores will operate at frequencies up to 93GHz and arrive in September. Benchmarks with the 2.66GHz middle child has appeared.

In the forum over at Asian hardware site Xfastest.com not only pictures of a Core i5 processor and one of Intel's reference motherboard has been posted, but also some quick benchmarks.

The processor operates at 2.66GHz and among the benchmarks we find some pure processor tests in the form of Cinebench 10 and Everest, where we can do a quick comparison with some of our own tests with AMD's and Intel's latest processors.

Core i5/Lynnfield 2.66GHz

Core i7/Bloomfield 2.66GHz

Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz

Cinebench 10 - 4x 11379 13054 10385
Everest Queen 21802 24591 19940
Everest PhotoWorxx 20971 28001 29768
Everest AES 21150 23217 21337

As you can see Core i5 doesn't quite keep up with Intel's Core i7 920 processor operating at the same clock frequency, but also sporting an extra memory channel and integrated QPI controller. At the same time it is pretty much on par with AMD's flagship Phenom II X4 955, and the price difference between the two will play a significant role in the future battle for the consumers.
