Intel spikes Core i7 family with Core i7 975 EE and 950
Written by Andreas G 03 June 2009 19:06

The Core i7 family contains the fastest desktop processors and Intel's LGA1366 platform will keep ruling the market for the foreseeable future. Now that Intel will announce its new mid-range on September 1st, it will also revise the current lineup a bit. As we told you a while back several of the current models, more or less all really, of the Core i7 family will be removed from the market and the replacements have now arrived.

Intel has officially launched its two Core i7 replacement models, which includes the new king of the hill Core i7 975 Extreme Edition. The processor sports four cores each operating at 3.33GHz. With Intel's Turbo Mode one core can automatically overclock to 3.6GHz to improve performance in single-threaded applications.

The minion Core i7 950 that also launched today is limited to 3.06GHz and has a locked multiplier, while 975 EE is unlocked for better overclocking potential.
