Intel will launch the successor to the Atom processor in the fourth quarter. The Pineview-M platform will house a number of new Atom processors based on Intel's new Pineview architecture. Detailed information on three of the first models has surfaced; Atom N450, Atom D410 and Atom D510. The first two are single-core CPUs operating at 1.66GHz each while the last, D510, holds two physical cores, also running at 1.66GHz, and 512KB L2 cache per core.
Intel Atom N450 and D510 will become available in the fourth quarter, while we will have to wait until next year for Atom D410 to arrive. It is expected to find a home inside nettops.
Since the new Pineview processors comes with both memory controller and GPU integrated into the CPU, Intel has managed to reduce the overall size of the platform by 64%.

With the same clock frequencies as the current Atom processors it is mainly the memory bandwidth and the integrated graphic circuit that is expected to make a difference in performance. Together with the Intel NM10 Express chipset, that is really just a southbridge, the power consumption will be more than halved compared to today''s Atom platform, down from 16W to 7W (Pineview-M with Atom N450).
