The first 40nm graphics circuits from NVIDIA are here. As expected it was the mobile industry that was prioritized and we now have official confirmation that the new graphics circuits also supports DirectX 10.1, bringing NVIDIA one step closer to DirectX 11. NVIDIA has launched no less than five mobile graphics circuits that stretches from budget to performance.
The top model of NVIDIA's new 40 nanometer family is called GeForce GTS 260M and will be the second most powerful GPU on the mobile market, breathing down the neck of GeForce GTX 280M. NVIDIA claims that the new GeForce 200M series will fill the void between the top model GTX 280M and the entry level GeForce 9400M chip.
NVIDIA's new circuits has full support for Microsoft Windows 7 and WDDM 1.1, and popular features likes CUDA, Blu-ray acceleration, SLI (260M/250M) and PhysX.
As previously reported, NVIDIA has also presented its first circuits officially supporting GDDR5. Both GeForce GTS 260M and GTS 250M use the latest memory technology, shown by the table below;
When the first computers using NVIDIA's new circuits appears is uncertain, but according to NVIDIA the new GPUs will appear in more than 100 different computer models before the end of the year.
Within the near future we should also see the first 40nm circuits with DX10.1 support for the desktop market, but these will only be low-end by the looks of it.
