AMD to replace Better By Design with AMD Vision
Written by Andreas G 24 June 2009 19:08

AMD carries a rather confusing product branding today and when it launched Puma platform earlier this year it was a part of the new Better by Design concept. Just like Intel Centrino, Better by Design was a branding used for different combinations of hardware for platforms for notebooks but also smaller stationary systems. Better by Design was not especially well received by consumers or partners and now it looks like the concept will get an early grave as the next mobile platform will be replaced by AMD Vision.

AMD Vision will be a new attempt to simplify platform designing and PC building with AMD's mobile components where it not only shows with utmost clarity in which segment the platforms work but also the performance to expect.

AMD will launch the new VISION Technology with the new Tigris platform, and replace the Better by Design, and will make it easier for both PC manufacturers and consumers by using three levels of of platform.

AMD VISION - Base platform with e.g. Athlon Neo X2 processor and Radeon HD 3200/4200 graphics

AMD VISION PREMIUM - A bit more powerful with for example Radeon HD 4330 graphics circuit and Neo X2 processor.

AMD VISION ULTIMATE - The performance model with AMD Turion II processor and powerful graphics like Radeon HD 4650 or faster.

AMD will be hard on picking out well balanced components with each level. If you go with a powerful 4870 graphics card you still can't sticker it with a Vision Ultimate logo in case the processor isn't fast enough.

AMD will not be making any major official statements on the VISION platform until after the summer, but the logotype is said to look as the picture below;
