ASUS scraps P6X58 with USB 3.0
Written by Andreas G 30 July 2009 13:36

ASUS was one of the first to present a motherboard with USB 3.0 support. In may we saw the first USB 3.0 chips launch and over the last week have seen multiple USB 3.0 to SATA bridge chips being presented. Alas, USB 3.0 took a dive when stories of ASUS pulling the plug on its P6X58 Premium motherboard appeared. It would have become its first USB 3.0 compatible motherboard.

According to The Inquirer ASUS hasn't specified a reason for scrapping the X58 motherboard. We just hope that it's a matter of priority and that there are no problems in the support for the new technology. The other attraction of the board, the SATA 6Gbps support, has also taken a few hits lately, something that may have affected the decision process.

The sum of it all is that we will have to wait further for the first USB 3.0 compatible motherboards. Sad, but since there are still no real USB 3.0 products available it might not really matter anyway.
