Firefox breaks 30%, 1 billion downloads
Written by Andreas G 04 August 2009 18:52

Internet Explorer is losing ground and even if there are many browsers gaining on it; Chrome, Opera and Safari, the biggest threat is still Mozilla's Firefox. Firefox has been battling Microsoft for many years and it has been gaining steadily. Mozilla has announced that two milestones have been reached. First of all, Firefox has now been downloaded more than 1 billion times, while new statistics point to a record size market share.

According to the latest browser market survey, Firefox has climbed up 31 of the International browser market while Microsoft is still the biggest player with around 60 percent. A big lead, but bear in mind that Microsoft used to hold more than 90 percent.

IE and Firefox are the two giants and Mozilla recently showed some design mockups for the fourth version of the browser. Firefox 4.0 will offer an improved user interface, similar to that of Google Chrome, which has grown to become a favorite among crew members.

Mozilla will most likely continue to gain on Microsoft as Windows 7 launches, as the forced removal of IE from Windows 7 in Europe surely won't help Microsoft keep shares.
