Microsoft's first generation video game console Xbox is anything but fresh and doesn't really attract the same crowd as it used to. Computers and home electronics is always interesting though and especially when talented modders get their hands on it. Microsoft's Xbox game console was harshly criticized for its clumsy design and this is something case modder Bandit5371 at Xbox-scene.com has fixed now, with Xbox Micro.
A regular Xbox was sacrificed and by moving the capacitors, swapping the cooling and throwing out the DVD player Bandit trimmed down more than a few centimeters. The original Xbox is 88mm high, while Xbox Micro is proud to show its mere 25mm.
The case is made from polycarbonate and is quite clean in its design and finish. The motherboard is from a v1.4 machine and has been TSOP flashed with an iND BIOS. This enables users to throw out the DVD- player and instead store all data on a single 320GB 2.5" harddrive.
Two simple Iceberg 4 Pro coolers are used to keep both CPU and GPU temperatures in check. The graphics processors reached 46°C at most.
A very impressive build that puts Microsoft's Xbox console back in the lime light, but only briefly. More pictures and information at Xbox-scene.com.
