Pillar Data was first to use 1 TeraByte harddrives for its storage arrays and when Axiom 600, the company flagship, was launched it used 1TB Hitachi GST harddrives. It has now introduced arrays with 2 TB 5400 RPM harddrives from Western Digital. This adds up to a total storage capacity of 1,624 TB, or 1.624 PetaByte with Axiom 600. The VP of Pillar Data says its positive to be able to offer customers larger storage solutions at lower costs and power consumption.
