Sony VAIO X series announced
Written by Andreas G 06 September 2009 16:00

Sony VAIO X is a cross-breed between a laptop and netbook with 11.1" LCD. Sony has emphasized the design, and the weight as VAIO X weighs only 680g. This is about half of what most 10" netbooks weigh. Sony has used carbon fiber to reduce the weight, which not only results in a lower weight but also makes the laptop extremely durable. It also contributes to the very sleek exterior, VAIO X is only 1.4cm thick.

The shiny exterior aside, Sony claims that the computer will be capable of up to a whole day of battery time, but they don't say how they measured this, though it's still promising.

The hardware of Sony VAIO X is currently Intel's Atom processor but it says that nothing is final and we hope to see both CULV processors and next generation Atom processors (Pineview) in the future.

Sony VAIO X is expected to launch nearing the end of October, closely after the launch of Microsoft Windows 7. Prices are yet to be revealed, but you can count on more than a few dollars above average, but we're of course hoping for less.

Either way, it's easy to appreciate the pretty design, not the least the keyboard and superlow profile.
