If we are to believe the fresh roadmap that has leaked from graphics card maker NVIDIA the end of 2009 will bring no real news. NVIDIA won't have DirectX 11 or fresh 40nm silicon coming this year, but instead we will have to wait for the first half of Q1 2010. According to SemiAccurate the GT300 architecture is slated for late Q1 where budget and performance segments will be the first to get DX11 and 40nm technology from NVIDIA.
This roadmaps certainly puts NVIDIA somewhere between a big rock and some hard place as it will miss out on the Holiday shoppings while ATI will roll out new cards that should, must, beat NVIDIA on all stances.
D11 is 40nm with DirectX 11, D12U is NVIDIA's flagship GT300
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 is still a very fast and capable card, but with a huge die and high manufacturing cost it's worrying to see that the chip is still around in Q1 2010. At the same time we see that the quite old G92 chips will be around for just as long, though it's a lot more cost efficient.
The meat of the market, Performance B, is still served by the venerable G92. Ouch. No, really. Nvidia's inability to make a part is getting painful to watch at this point. Juniper will kill this part at a lower cost.
NVIDIA is probably in for a price war, which must be highly uncomfortable considering its complex and expensive chips.
