While we are working on our own review of AMD's next generation graphics circuits, more information on the new Radeon HD 5800 series is leaking. The latest are the first pictures of retail versions of AMD's new card. Sapphire will be quick to get its Radeon HD 5870 and 5850 card out on the market and over at Akihabara they have published pictures of these two.
The cards are similar in their physical design except that Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 is around 3 centimeters longer than the sibling. Both cards are huge though, measuring 24cm and 27cm respectively. For comparison, AMD's dual-GPU card, Radeon HD 4870X2 also measures 27cm.
The cards use the same reference cooler seen on previous photos, but with some Sapphire-inspired stickers. The cooler hides 1GB GDDR5 memory with each card.
We will be offering more information on AMD's first DirectX 11 graphics cards shortly.
