Dell has presented a new notebook for the business users, but Latitude Z600 is a lot more fun than you would expect from such a notebook. First of all Dell has, like most manufacturers of today, have gone with a slim profile and even though it sports a 16" display it is only 12mm thick and weighs only 2kg. The pleasant exterior is one thing, but Dell has looked over the features and the first is Latitude ON.
This technology is a more advanced model of the quickbooting operating system we have seen from several other companies lately. But with Latitude ON Dell has gone so far to integrate an energy efficient System-on-a-chip next to Intel's CULV processor. With 512MB flash storage it is this secondary processor that powers the slim Linux operating system that boots in less than 2 seconds.
The SoC solution bless Latitude Z600 with an active sleep mode where mail and messages can be received and saved even the computer is still sleeping, much like how our smartphones work.
On top of all this Dell has focused on a Wireless design, with a capital W. The charging process is wireless and works through a docking station using electromagnetic induction and charge the computer on the spot when it comes in contact with the stylish docking station.
At the same time Z600 also supports wireless transfers of video, data and audio, which together with a wireless docking station enables you to connect a separate monitor without having to connect it physically (with cables and whatnot).
Dell Latitude Z600 starts shipping today and prices start at above $2,000.
