Pioneer announces first 12x Blu-ray burner
Written by Andreas G 01 October 2009 21:29

Even if the Blu-ray format have spread over the last year, the focus is still mainly on movies. There are still relatively few that can burn their own Blu-ray discs to any greater extent. The biggest reason is the cost of Blu-ray media, and the burner for that matter. At the same time it takes quite a long time to write 25GB-50GB data to an optical disc. The fastest Blu-ray burners are limited to 8x, but now Pioneer has launched the world's first Blu-ray burner with 12x write speed.

Pioneer BDR-205 can achieve a theoretic speed of 54MB/s which would be enough to fill a 25GB single-layer Blu-ray disc in 8 minutes.

Pioneer's new Blu-ray burner also supports writing of DVD and CD media. Pioneer BDR-205 will start shipping at the end of October and cost around 250€.
