Chrome OS shipping with netbooks in October?
Written by Andreas G 01 October 2009 21:49

Google's own operating system, Chrome OS, is under full development and last we heard it would launch sometime in 2010, most likely the second half. However, here are a number of netbook makers that are planning to launch Chrome OS models in October already, that is October 2009. The information is said to come from reliable sources and matches the words from Google VP Eric Schmidt that claims the first Chrome OS netbook should appear before the end of the year.

The Chinese PC market is very sensitive to costs and therefore many manufacturers are looking at Google's free operating system and rumors says that Chrome OS will be paired with the MIPS-compatible CPU Loongson 2F.

The Loongson processor developed in China and considerably cheaper than for example Intel's Atom processor. With its Linux background Chrome OS is not afraid of different processor architectures and even if it may take a while before Chrome OS is finalized the Chinese industry seem willing to use the early versions available today.

The information has not been confirmed by Google, and we don't really expect them to, but it we hope to see Chrome OS soon nonetheless.
