Intel has a number of SSD nuits coming in 2012, and the first we can expect are in the 300 series. SSD 313 is already launched and replace the 311 as cache, while SSD 330 will be the longed for replacement for the 320 series.

Toward the end of last year the harddrive market took a real beating, as floods in Thailand completely paralyzed the industry. The worst is over, but there is still a lot of work to do, but the manufacturers are reluctant to lower prices to the levels they were before.

Now WD-owned Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has officially announced the first harddrive with 4TB capacity shipping to businesses. Ultrastar 7K4000 is the name of the model with a 7200 RPM engine that is shipping to customers.

Intel launched the Larson Creek and 311 series SSD last year. It was limited to 20GB capacity and only intended to work as cache to complete a mechanical drive. Intel is now planning to replace it at the launch of Ivy Bridge.

NAND Flash is used in everything from memory cards, USB memory sticks to SSD units. It has always been expensive, but is starting to come down to levels that should appeal more to the big masses. Both Kingston and SanDisk have annoucned they will drop prices with 15 percent across the board.
